Out-of-Home Advertising
A coordinated framework of digital and static out-of-home media across downtown transit networks and street furniture for Gee Horton’s solo exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center. These adverts were engineered to grab public attention, and carry the raw emotional gravity, intimate storytelling, and unyielding visual authority of the show directly to the viewer.
[Role: Lead Graphic Designer]
The Problem
Out-of-home advertising usually requires a lot of visual noise to get noticed, which can easily cheapen the feel of fine art. For Gee Horton’s solo exhibition at the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center, the design challenge was finding a balance. We needed to create ads for a fast-paced urban environment that caught people's eyes without flattening the quiet, intimate tone of his charcoal portraiture.
The Solution
We kept the layouts incredibly minimal and let the artwork do the heavy lifting. By deploying clean, high-contrast monochrome designs across downtown transit and street furniture, we stripped away the typical promotional clutter. We scaled up the portraits for strong stopping power on the street, ensuring the ads felt like a premium extension of the gallery rather than a standard commercial flyer.
